Automotive manufacturers must make incremental changes in components and manufacturing processes to improve the mature technologies of combustion-engine technologies. At the same time, they must machine new materials with equal efficiency and reliability to build tomorrow's vehicles, which are lightweight, low emission and quiet.
Material challenges
In the automotive industry, materials range from tough nickel or HRC steel for tire molds to light aluminum impellers and steel structural parts. These materials need cost-efficient single-clamping machining in a reliable, productive manufacturing process despite dynamic machining.
Our dedicated solutions use COOL-Core technology and our Opticool System to produce high precision and maintain compliance and process safety on spindles with continuous process monitoring.
Our market-oriented solutions
Step-Tec HVC 140 platform
The HVC 140 spindle platform achieves high precision and surface quality on small automotive parts such as light molds, with good power and torque in housing diameters as small as 140 mm. Achieve very precise finishes when milling and grinding with a stiff bearing design backed with P2-quality bearings. This platform offers the highest-possible availability through our Spindle Exchange Program (SEP).
Recommended spindles
The HVC 140 spindle is perfectly suited to finishing parts in a single clamping, with a maximum speed of 42,000 rpm and 8.8 Nm (S6 40%) of torque.
Step-Tec HPC 150 platform
The HVC/HPC 150 spindle platform for extended roughing combines the high speed of the HVC platform with greater power and torque, in housing diameters as small as 150 mm. Its advantages apply equally to part production, including gears, and to achieving the highest surface quality on tire molds. We manufacture the extremely round shafts in house to provide excellent surface finishes, while COOL-Core technology and the Opticool System provide reliability through polar temperature stability. For advanced grinding, add an optional AE sensor.
Recommended spindles
The HVC/HPC 150 Tool Maker spindle finishes parts with high precision and quality, with a maximum speed of 36,000 rpm with 33 kW (S6 40%) of power.
Step-Tec HPC 190 platform
The HPC 190 spindle platform for roughing and finishing of precision parts and for part production provides power, torque and speed for a cost-sensitive industry, in housing diameters as small as 190 mm. It excels at medium-to-large motor parts and even crankshaft molds. We manufacture the extremely round shafts in house to provide excellent surface finishes, while COOL-Core technology and the Opticool System provide reliability through polar temperature stability. This platform offers the highest-possible availability through our Spindle Exchange Program (SEP). To mill, grind and turn in a single clamping, add an optional spindle shaft interlock and AE sensor.
Recommended spindles
The HPC190 One Touch spindle can mill, grind and turn, rough and finish, all in a single clamping, with a maximum speed of 20,000 rpm, 36 kW (S6 40%) of power and 120 Nm (S6 40%) of torque.
Step-Tec HPC 240 platform
The HPC 240 spindle platform for roughing and finishing of precision parts provides power, torque and speed for a cost-sensitive industry, in housing diameters as small as 240 mm. Its wide range provides an optimal solution for molds and part production, with short spindles for tilting heads to boost efficiency. Twin Air Sealing eases machining of new mud-sensitive materials, including composites, while the spindle shaft interlock enables mill-turn processes.
