Reaching carbon neutrality
GF and its division GF Machining Solutions have committed to an ambitious climate protection plan, based on the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
We achieve this ambitious plan by focusing on several key levers: rapidly decarbonizing GF Machining Solutions facilities as well as reducing the energy consumption of our machines during their use phase at our customer sites.
In our operations and to tackle scopes 1+2 emissions according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, we decided to:
- Switch from grey to green electricity in our Losone, Biel, Changzhou and Langnau facilities
- Migrate our combustion engine car fleet to electric vehicles. This is particularly relevant for our sales companies which have large car fleets
We're making great progress as our Changzhou, Biel, Langnau and Vällingby facilities have now achieved carbon neutrality in scopes 1+2. This was accomplished by compensating the remaining marginal emissions after our Biel and Langnau sites switched to green electricity, while our Vällingby facility had very low levels of emissions due to a favorable grid and heating mix.
